Oleksiy Tolochko

Oleksiy Petrovych Tolochko is a Ukrainian historian, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and a specialist in medieval Rus’ and the historiography of early Rus’.

Tolochko is one of the leading Ukrainian medievalists. His research focuses on the political history of Rus’, the source criticism of the chronicles of early Rus’, and the deconstruction of later historiographical myths that have formed around medieval Eastern European history.

Tolochko’s works are important for understanding how contemporary Ukrainian historical scholarship is rethinking the legacy of Rus’, separating scholarly facts from the ideological accretions of imperial and Soviet historiography.
